Handcrafted scale ready built ship kit of Hudson Firth
This model ship kit is an accurate replica of the Hudson Firth, a collier ship manufactured and launched in 1949. She was built by Ailsa Ship Building Co, in Troon, for the purposes of supplying London power stations with coal. She could carry up to 4,500 tonnes and had a length of 320 feet. Her sister ship, the Hudson Steam, was launched three years earlier and served a similar purpose.
The Hudson Firth would have heavily used in a post-war period. Even when the coal trade began to decline, she was fitted with oil burning engines and cargo handling gear which made her a perfect ship for mixed freight trade. In serving this purpose, she continued to provide employment opportunities and create revenue.
During her career she traversed the world, visiting such places as Canada, South Africa, and multiple locations across the Atlantic seaboard. She was eventually sold to Panamanian owners in 1967, and after five years, was broken up near Dalmuir-on-the-Clyde.
This is a model boat kit of the Hudson Steam, manufactured by Premier Ship Models. We are happy to offer this as a ready-made model if for any reason, you feel you are unable to complete the kit yourself. If you would like us to build this kit for you, do please contact us.
