HMS Vanguard was one of the ships of the Royal Navy. Many ships before and after this one were named HMS Vanguard, this one being the sixth in order. She was ordered in 1779 and launched in 1787 in Deptford. HMS Vanguard became most famous as a flagship of Admiral Nelson at the Battle of the Nile in August of 1798 when Nelson attacked the French fleet. Vanguard was eventually broken up in 1821 after being repaired in 1807, serving as a prison ship at Plymouth and being used as a powder hulk.
