This “low black schooner” was the only foreign entry to challenge British yachting in the race around the Isle of Wight in 1851. In this 53-mile race, America was 18 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. She brought home that famed cup that was named after her “America’s Cup”.
This Admiralty-style model that exposes the mahogany ribs is a 1/8″ scale with plank-on-frame construction. The model boat kit provides enough wood to complete the planking, along with brass and Britannia fittings, rigging line, and sail cloth.
