About the Double Boat
The double boat was a sailing and rowing vessel employed by the Russian navy in the 18th century. They were mainly utilised on rivers, estuaries and near coasts. The double boat existed before the use of gunboats, which performed the same tasks but could also support troop landing and other transportation uses. In terms of their construction and design, the double boats had between 9-20 pairs of oars. They were originally built with two masts, but was later updated to include only one detachable mast with square sails. Updated versions also included a deck.
