More than 50,000 people sailing 5,300 boats sail this J-class yacht. This modern one-design keelboat is still considered the “gold standard” around the world. One-Design is a racing method which may be adopted in sports that use complex equipment, whereby all vehicles have identical or similar designs or models.
The word “keelboat” refers to two different types of boat, each with different uses. Less common, is the one that carries cargo or passengers along narrow waterways. The other is a sailboat for recreational purposes. One of the main features of each is the presence of a keel along the bottom side of the boat’s hull.
This model features a solid basswood carved hull and an airfoiled aluminum mast. Laser cut wood, Britannia metal fittings, and stainless-steel photo etch enhance the details of this kit.
