About the Tender Avos
Built in Novoarkhangelsk in Russian America, the Avos was commissioned during an expedition to California, led by the explorer Nikolai Rezanov. The expedition was to be carried out with two ships, which included both the newly build Tender Avos and brigantine Juno. Both ships set sail for California in search of provisions for Russian settlements in Alaska.
On the 27th July 1806, the Avos also set sail under the command of 22 year old officer Gavrila Davidov, accompanied by 12 local craftsmen, on a secret expedition to establish interests in the waters around the Southern Kuril Islands and the Sakhalin, which formed part of the Russian empire. Faced with many storms, the crew was forced to stop at the Fox islands in order make repairs. Eventually arriving a the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin, both the Avos and Juno carried out several military raids along the coast, in order to get rid of Japanese settlements.
On 11th of October 1808, tender “Avos” was wrecked near the coast of Chichagov island near the Alexander archipelago, while sailing from Kadiak to Novo-Arkhangelsk, during the storm. Despite being short-lived the Avos is well known due to world popular first Russian rock-opera by A.Rybnikov and A.Voznesensky titled “Juno and Avos”.
About the Tender 1806 Model Boat Kit
Built on a scale of 1:72, the Avos is an extremely detailed model boat kit with laser cut wooden parts to ensure for a smooth assembly. The laser etched deck is made of maple veneer. The model includes detailed sail plans and cloth for sewing the sails. Instructions are provided in as much detail as possible with 3 sheets of plans, 2 tables with rigging details, one text manual and one photo manual. The model comes with two name plates, one in English and one in Russian, which can be used alternately depending on your preference.
