Two British Royal Navy vessels have officially arrived in South Korea as part of a major Indo-Pacific mission designed to boost maritime security and reinforce defense partnerships in the region.
The frigate HMS Richmond docked at the Port of Busan on Tuesday, followed by the logistical support ship RFA Tidespring, which arrived a day earlier. Notably, the Tidespring was originally built in 2016 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, now known as Hanwha Ocean, highlighting Korea’s ongoing contribution to global naval engineering.
Their visit is part of Operation Highmast, the Royal Navy’s eight-month deployment across the Indo-Pacific aimed at expanding defense cooperation, increasing interoperability with allies, and supporting a stable and secure maritime environment.
During their two-week stay, the crews will participate in cultural exchanges, diplomatic events, and joint activities that further strengthen ties between the UK and South Korea.
The British Embassy in Seoul emphasized that this port call reflects the UK’s long-term commitment to regional security and deeper defense collaboration. Adding to the momentum, the Royal Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, is scheduled to carry out an aerial capability demonstration in South Korean waters next month — a move expected to draw significant strategic interest in the region.
