Final Cruise Ship Marks the End of Lerwick’s 2025 Season

The Vasco da Gama, a 219-meter cruise ship, officially marked the close of the 2025 cruise season at Lerwick Harbour in Shetland, Scotland. Sailing from Haugesund, Norway, to Hamburg, Germany, the impressive 55,877-ton vessel symbolizes the growing global recognition of Lerwick as a top cruise destination in northern Europe.

This year, Lerwick welcomed 127 cruise vessels, bringing in over 129,000 passengers from around the world. Despite minor weather-related delays in the North Sea, the season remained robust and steady, following last year’s record-breaking numbers.

In 2025, 34 different cruise lines included Lerwick in their itineraries, drawing passengers primarily from the USA (40%), Germany and the EU (37%), the UK (16%), and other regions (5%). The steady international interest underscores Shetland’s growing reputation as a gateway to Scotland’s natural beauty and maritime culture.
