Welcome to our new website

Published on 19/09/19

At Premier Ship Models, we’ve always been driven to give our customers the best user experience possible by creating a website that’s easy to navigate. In 2013 we pushed this concept further after developing four international websites, which better served our overseas customers, allowing them to checkout in their local currency. On July 4th we launched our new website in partnership with web developers Freestart Plc with a fresh design and several features that offered an even better user experience than before. In this week’s blog we take a look at some of these features and how they can be used to help you find the perfect product.

1. Better search filtering

With over 1000 products, finding the perfect ship model is never easy. Most customers however have an idea of what type of ship they are looking for before they start browsing. This is why we created different product categories for example modern yacht or historical ship, so users could search within that category to find their model.

The new website offers a more specific search criteria using our new feature called vessel types. For example, a customer might be looking for a historical ship but there are lots of different types of historical ships, such as a galleon or a ship of the line. The vessel type dropdown in the search filter allows customers to find these easily and gives them the opportunity to find their dream model much faster.

2. Delivery calculator

Having dealt with customer queries over the years, we understand that a client’s main concern before ordering can be the shipping cost. Our new website allows users to add a product to the cart and then enter their city or postcode to get an estimated shipping cost before they proceed with their order. This feature is a quick and easy way to understand your total costs without having to pick up the phone or send an email.

3. Finding the perfect model boat kit

Drawing from our experience again from having dealt with our customers, we’ve highlighted the normal considerations they take when looking for and purchasing a model boat kit. These are the difficulty level, the type of hull (plank on frame or pre built plastic) and whether the kit can be adapted in to a remote control model. Our new website allows users to search within this criteria. This combined with being able to search by vessel type means you can find exactly what you are looking for quickly for example a beginner kit that has plank on frame construction and is a ship of the line.

4. Similar products

Using the vessel type of a model, a product page will now show similar models to the one currently being viewed. The related products shown are also within the same price range of the model. This feature allows customers to better navigate the website through offering them alternatives to the product they are viewing should they feel the current one isn’t quite right.

5. Contact us more easily

We’ve added several new contact forms including one to the homepage along with the one on the contact page and the product page. The placement of these new contact forms along with quick and easy fields to fill in allows our customers to get in contact with us more quickly so that we can help them with their enquiry.

Feedback

We’ve developed and built this website with our customers in mind, using their feedback over the years to create a website that’s easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. We’re always looking to improve however so should you have any feedback please leave it in the comments section below.
