HMS Agamemnon Model Boat Kit
History
Lord Nelson, who sits famously atop a column in London’s Trafalgar Square, is a well-known figure in history. He played a vital role in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, which saw British victory. He is possibly best known for his command of the HMS Victory, which is still afloat in Portsmouth, UK, and attracts visitors from across the world.
However, Lord Nelson commanded many ships throughout his service to the Royal Navy. One such ship was the HMS Agamemnon, of which this model kit is a scale replica. Nelson in fact commented that the HMS Agamemnon, a 64-gun ship of the line, was his favourite vessel. The collection of historical ship model kits built by Caldercraft to which this kit belongs has been coined Nelson’s Navy.
The British Empire in the 1700’s was rapidly growing and the Royal Navy was tasked with bringing this island nation to international dominance. The best way of achieving this was through naval dominance, hence why so many famous ships come from this period of British history.
